In the era of the energy revolution, the issues of economic viability and efficiency are becoming increasingly important for companies when it comes to energy supply. Together with subsidiary Carbotechnik Energiesysteme GmbH, GETEC has developed the technology for lignite dust firing to market-readiness. This technology allows the use of the locally available fuel of lignite dust for long-term, stable-priced energy supply without the price fluctuations associated with heating oil and natural gas.
The fuel of lignite dust
Lignite dust is a refined, fine-grain fuel which should not be confused with the raw lignite used in many power plants. Lignite dust is extracted from high quality lignite by processing, drying and grinding the coal. The refinement produces a particularly efficient fuel, as it has a virtually constant fuel heating value thanks to its low water content.
The lignite which is refined into lignite dust is available in large quantities in central Germany, in the lower Rhine region and Lusatia. This means stable long-term prices can be negotiated when buying the fuel.
Lignite dust firing - LD technology
The lignite dust firing technology has a significantly higher calorific value than raw lignite and is therefore much more efficient to use. This makes lignite dust firing a modern, innovative technology. The lignite dust is contained in a sealed storage, combustion and ash disposal system so no dust can escape and produce unpleasant odours.
The lignite dust systems built by GETEC comply with or even considerably exceed the required tolerances set out in the statutory environmental regulations, such as:

The lignite dust plant
The lignite dust is delivered via silo dust truck or rail tank car. The fuel is unloaded into a silo via a sealed system of pipes. In the silo, the coal dust immediately absorbs the oxygen, with the remaining nitrogen acting as a protective gas. This means the lignite dust in storage cannot be ignited by sparks or heat and can be stored safely for a long time.
The muffle pulse burner developed by GETEC is fired by lignite dust. It works noiselessly and generates a flame jet which blasts the ashes out of the fire chamber and keeps them clean. The system can be used particularly efficiently with combined heat and power. This means that electricity and heat can be generated at the same time.
Depending on the requirement, the ash is extracted from the ash container after unloading and returned to the fuel supplier. This closes the circuit.
The patented burner, boiler and control technology is now generating energy in more than 30 power plants across Germany.
Special gas usage
Lignite dust technology allows low-calorie weak gases found in the chemical industry to be used for heating. Polluting process gases can also be destroyed in conjunction with lignite dust in the muffle pulse burner by means of co-combustion. This technology of lignite dust firing makes a significant contribution to environmental protection and saves enormous amounts of costs for companies as disposal of polluting gases is very expensive.
